Toxoplasma gondii Infection in Patients with Cardiovascular Diseases from Western Romania: A Case–Control Study

(1) Background: Toxoplasma gondii infects approximately one third of the world’s human population. The seroepidemiology T. in cardiovascular patients is poorly discussed existing literature. We aimed to evaluate, for first time, seroprevalence from Western Romania. (2) Methods: Serologic testing demonstrate presence antibodies was conducted 256 with diseases and 261 matched blood donors. (3) Results: overall 64.06% 52.88% donors tended increase age both groups. significantly higher male (69.94%) compared (55.69%) (p = 0.006). When control group, a prevalence found among hypertension (82.35%; p 0.01) unstable angina (67.56%; 0.02). (4) Conclusions: This study brings new epidemiological information on Romanian patients. angina, suggesting that individuals these diagnoses may be more frequently infected gondii. valuable starting point further research better evaluate impact exposure diseases.
